How an Orlando Attorney Uses Social Media for Business

From time to time in this blog, I’ve shared different tips and strategies for using Twitter and other social networking sites to grow your business. Whether it’s retweeting other people’s blog articles, or doing a #FollowFriday shoutout, using Twitter and social media successfully comes down to one main concept: it’s all about building relationships.

That concept is what led to the topic for today’s article. For several months, I’ve been trading tweets back and forth with Orlando attorney Steven Kramer. In this interview, Steven shares his experience with social media and how he’s been able to use it to build his law practice.

Social Media Blackout Day May be in Works as a SOPA Protest

By Gloria Rand
Stop SOPAWhat would you do with yourself if you couldn’t log onto Facebook, check into Foursquare or… perish the thought… Google anything?

You may find out sooner than you think, come Jan. 23 or thereabouts. That’s the day before the U.S. Senate is scheduled to debate the Stop Anti-Piracy Act (SOPA) bill. And it’s the day that some people think a coalition of web companies plan to launch a blackout in protest of SOPA.

ExtremeTech reports:

There’s been no formal decision on the matter, and the companies in question obviously risk consumer anger and backlash over any suspension of services. There is, however, safety in numbers — and a few simple sentences identifying why the blackout is in place will ensure that the majority of the rage flows in the proper direction.

SOPA makes the streaming of unauthorized content a felony, and many people think the vagueness of its language could harm free speech on the Internet, as well as stifle online business development.

The companies reportedly involved in the possible blackout include:

  • AOL
  • eBay
  • Etsy
  • Facebook
  • Foursquare
  • Google
  • IAC
  • LinkedIn
  • Mozilla
  • OpenDNS
  • PayPal
  • Twitter
  • Wikipedia
  • Yahoo!
  • Zynga

Somewhere up in heaven my big brother Rick is smiling. January 23 would have been his 65th birthday, and he was always a bit of a rebel! Happy b-day bro… 😉

If this blackout day happens, will you support it?

3 New Ways to Boost Engagement on LinkedIn

LinkedIn logo[tweetmeme]By Gloria Rand

LinkedIn is adding a much-needed feature to its Company Pages: the ability to post status updates. This is a welcome development. LinkedIn Company Pages have some great features, such as the ability to include YouTube videos, and banner-size graphics. But it’s been difficult, I think, for small businesses to attract company followers without having any way to engage them. That’s why Facebook business pages are so popular. It’s all about engagement there!

Now, LinkedIn Company Page admins will be able to share announcements, product releases, promotions, etc. right on their page. And LinkedIn says admins will be able to optimize the conversation by seeing which updates are most engaging.

This new ability is being rolled out slowly. I still don’t have it on my own company page. But here is an example of what it will look like:

LinkedIn has also worked out some new developer deals that will help increase user engagement. Wildfire Interactive will offer users the ability to run contests and sweepstakes on LinkedIn, similar to what they offer on Facebook. Wildfire says running one of its promotions in conjunction with a LinkedIn ad can double click-through rates by more than 60%, when compared to running an ad without a Wildfire promotion.

And Hootsuite users can now schedule posts directly to LinkedIn Company Pages and Groups.

Hootsuite says, “these features can help companies enhance sales lead generation and HR recruiting efforts by sharing professional expertise, publishing company status updates, and promoting job opportunities – all from a centralized, secure communications hub.”

I encourage you to become a follower of my LinkedIn Company Page to stay on top of the latest SEO and social media marketing trends.
