How to Build an Editorial Calendar

Last week, I shared some reasons why an editorial calendar is so helpful for content marketing. In this post, I’m going to give you some tips on how to go about building an editorial calendar.

You can use whatever format is most useful to you. An Excel spreadsheet works well. Google calendar too. Or you can use a template from Google Drive, as I explain in the video below:

Whatever format you use, there are a few common elements that should be included such as:

  • topic
  • category
  • links/resources
  • photo
  • author(s)
  • expected publish date
  • status
  • publish date

You can always tweak the calendar to suit your company’s specific editorial needs. If you’d like a headstart creaitng a calendar, here is a sample editorial calendar  that you can download now: Sample Editorial Calendar
