LinkedIn Answers Gets Pink Slipped


LinkedIn Answers Say good-bye to LinkedIn Answers. I received an email from LinkedIn today stating they are eliminating the application from its site on Jan. 31. Instead, the social networking site says, “we’re focusing our efforts on developing new and  more engaging ways to share and discuss  professional topics across LinkedIn.”  And it says more details will be available in the coming months, “so please stay tuned.”

I’ve been polling my social connections today, and the reviews are mixed. Some don’t care, while others are disappointed. I always recommended LinkedIn Answers as part of a marketing strategy because it was a great way to demonstrate your expertise in a particular subject by answering other people’s questions. So, I’m rather surprised that LinkedIn is getting rid of it. Hopefully, whatever they decide to do next will be an improvement!  Until that happens, the winner in the short term could be answer site, Quora.

For now, LinkedIn recommends that you share insights and questions in these ways:

  • Connect with like-minded professionals in one of their 1.5M+ Groups
  • Ask other LinkedIn members questions and receive immediate feedback via Polls
  • Follow influencers for access to insightful professional content
  • Facilitate conversations with your connections via status updates

I must admit, I did a poll in one of my LinkedIn groups about this very subject today and it generated a response in a very short period of time. Maybe polling is the way to go.

  1. Thanks for sharing this. I didn’t get an email from Linkedin, likely because I don’t use the Answers portion of the website. It has always seemed like a silo in the overall Linkedin experience and rarely came on my radar. Quora, however, has been a great resource for answers, conversations and topic ideas. I highly recommend it as part of a marketing strategy.
