How to Use LinkedIn Today for Your Business

[tweetmeme] Do you get stuck trying to find good ideas to write about for your business blog? Would you like a centralized place to find articles to share with your Facebook or Twitter followers? If you answered “yes” to either one of those questions, I have good news, especially if you’re already using LinkedIn for business.  It’s called “LinkedIn Today.”

LinkedIn Today is essentially an online “newspaper” for LinkedIn users. It’s a useful tool for professionals who want to easily find news of interest to them. LinkedIn Today doesn’t use editors like a traditional newspaper does. Instead, the stories are ranked by the frequency the article has been shared on LinkedIn or tweeted on Twitter. Patti Feltes Winters of Good 2 Go Event Management told me that she likes LinkedIn Today because that feature “…sounds like a plus to me. Also, it’s nice to be able to customize your personal view by the industry or industries that you are interested in.”

When you first log in to LinkedIn, you’ll see the top three headlines from LinkedIn Today displayed underneath your status box. You can click on “see all headlines” to access the “Front Page” or click on the “news” tab at the top of the page.

Each article features a little blue icon with the image of a person and a number beside it. This indicates how many people have shared this article on LinkedIn. Simply click on the icon to see exactly who shared the article, and what companies and industries they work for. You can click on one of the names to view their LinkedIn profile, and connect with them if you choose.

This feature comes in handy if you’re marketing with LinkedIn and trying to connect with someone you don’t know personally. You could say something like:  “I saw on LinkedIn Today that you shared that article by John Smith in Mashable. I see we have some common interests. Why don’t we connect here? I’d like to learn more about your business.”

You can also choose to share the articles yourself, by clicking on the little share icon (noted below in red) or save it to read later.

  1. Hello there! Quick question that’s totally off topic. Do you know how to make your site mobile friendly? My site looks weird when viewing from my iphone 4. I’m trying to find a theme or plugin that might be able to correct this issue. If you have any recommendations, please share. With thanks!
